We use our eyes every day and we see the world through them. Even though we may take this for granted, it is critical to take good care of our eyes and be proactive about protecting and caring for our vision.  Here are three ways that you can start improving your eye health today and prevent poor eyesight.

#1. Blue Light Glasses

A large part of our day is spent on technology, staring at screens, whether it be working from home on a computer or staring at Instagram on your phone. Because of this, blue light glasses are a great investment. They can reduce blue light exposure by 45% and keep your eyes protected and less strained. The more blue light exposure you get, the more you are at risk for fatigue, headaches, and eye irritation.

#2. Eat the Right Foods

Believe it or not, the foods we eat can affect our eyes and there are certain foods that can increase the risk of eye health problems. Stay away from fried, high-sodium, or high-sugar foods. Instead, fill your body with foods that are good for eye health, like carrots, sweet potatoes, fish, and leafy greens.

#3. Wear Sun & Safety Glasses

Even on cloudy days, our eyes are exposed to harmful UV rays, so it is imperative that you wear sunglasses anytime you go outside, not just on sunny beach days. Sunglasses can also help block things like pollutants, wind, and allergens. Also, if you have a job where you are exposed to things that could damage your eyes, like dust, chemicals, or debris, make sure to wear a quality pair of safety glasses to protect your eyes.

If you follow these three suggestions and get into these habits, your eyes will stay healthy and protected throughout your life. Don’t forget to schedule annual eye exams to scan for any other concerns!
